Merkator, an innovative and fast-growing GIS company with offices in the Netherlands (Groningen and Zoelmond) and Belgium (Zellik near Brussels), is continuously looking for enthusiastic Geo-ICT experts with proven experience in the geospatial domain.
 

An in-depth knowledge of minimum one of the following GeoSpatial software solutions is mandatory : ESRI, Intergraph, Smallworld, Bentley Systems, Autodesk or Oracle Spatial and/or Open Source solutions (Geomajas, Udig, Geoserver).

Today Merkator is looking for four (4) Geo-ICT Consultants to help us achieve our growth plans and this in both Belgium (2) and The Netherlands (2).

Senior Geo-ICT Consultant (2 positions)

Main responsibilities

  • To develop compelling Geospatial Solutions to our customers.
  • To design, create, enhance, and maintain Geospatial (GIS) Software Applications, Mobile Applications and related Web Services.
  • To support the full Application and Software Development Life Cycle including:
    • Developing project planning/scope and requirements analysis
    • Providing products architecture and technical direction to development team by researching and suggesting new technology, tracking progress and documentation.
    • Ensuring the successful deployment and maintenance.
  • To guarantee code testability, good code coverage and maintainability.

​Job Requirements

  • At least 7 years of software development experience with demonstrable experience and fundamental understanding of GIS Applications such as Intergraph, Esri, Bentley Systems, Autodesk or GE-Smallworld. Programming knowledge with GeoServer/OpenLayers/Geomajas, Google Maps or Bing Maps is a plus.
  • Understanding of multiple SDLC concepts, experience in Agile (scrum) environment.
  • Understand complex business flows, and work closely with QA to resolve issues.
  • Good fundamental knowledge with Oracle SQL Database or Microsoft SQL Server Database including Spatial extensions (Locator, Spatial).
  • Knowledge in OO development principles, multi-tier web application design; preferably in .Net/C# environments
  • Knowledge and/or Experience with UML is a plus.
  • Web-based development experience; involvement with large-scale, high-volume web-based systems is preferred.
  • A track record of producing testable, maintainable code, working in an Agile environment with short development iterations is preferred.
  • Mother-tongue language Dutch or French.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary environment is a plus.
  • Ability to communicate directly with all levels of technical and business resources.
  • Excellent analytical skills, understanding of project life cycles, and ability to act in an entrepreneurial manner to ensure the software delivered matches the business communities’ needs.
